Chapter Nine
Reminiscence of a bitter past
As much as Estella wanted to help the mayor and his mate, she knew she couldn't.
When the purge happened ten years ago, Estella had come to visit her family on winter break regardless of her parent's disapproval. They'd just migrated from Mexico that year, and they didn't want the move to take a toll on Estella, so they made her stay with her grandmother.
It was the first holiday they reluctantly allowed fifteen-year-old Estella to spend with them. She was very excited about spending Christmas with her family in the new environment; she was going to show her parents how much magic she'd seen her grandmother do. Her excitement doubled when they picked her and grandma up from the airport, and she saw her mother sporting a growing abdomen. She was going to have a baby brother.
Estella remembered her mother saying that Christmas would be one to remember, and her father readily agreed with her. Little did they know that they would be correct, but sickeningly.
The vampire that killed her parents was one of the few close friends they'd made since they moved in. He'd been invited over for dinner on Christmas eve, and my parents had even gotten him a gift. Aunt Brenda, the twin sister of Estella's mother, who had spent the year documenting Africa to distract herself from thinking about her lousy divorce, had been at their house with her triplets, too; Estella noticed how her parents were trying to play cupid between her and the demon.
She'd giggled stupidly when she saw their attempts meet dead ends; that ought to have been the glaring red flag that was supposed to alarm them all, but they decided to let him stay till the count down, even though that had been what only family members did.
She knew her grandmother would have fished out his evil plan the moment he'd walked in through the door, but she had gone to the post office to deliver an important letter.
It was during the countdown he'd killed every member of the family. It took ten seconds for him to tear limbs from limbs after he compelled Estella to watch. He finished with her mother, tore open her protruded stomach and fed off the foetus before slowly coming up to her.
Estella watched in terror as it all happened, she cried through it, yelled and begged for him to stop, but she couldn't look away. She remembered how the man had slowly walked up to her as he made little effort in cleaning off his bloodied mouth. He flashed her his fangs with devilish mischief and told her he thought her blood would bring him the most satisfaction because he would drink her after tearing open her hymen and finish her off while she climaxed in pleasure.
Estella knew the end was near, but she still prayed for a miracle to happen. He'd torn off her clothes when her miracle came in the form of her grandmother. It was the only performance
